Fear Not and Stand Firm

Right up to the water’s edge… The Israelites had fled oppression and slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. Moses, whom God appointed to lead the Israelites in their journey, and the Israelites faced what seemed to be impossible. They were on their way to the promised land. They probably wondered if it would all end there. Did they know that it would end by the mighty hand of God – in their favor? When it seemed there was no way out…God provided:

Moses called out to the Israelites saying, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen” (Exodus 14:13-18).

Moses did just that. He raised his staff and stretched out his hand over the water, and the Lord parted the water for the Israelites to cross on dry land. The Egyptians tried to follow, but God allowed their chariot wheels to become clogged, and closed the water in on them.

As you think about the people of Ukraine today, pray for them to be as the Israelites. Pray for them to not be afraid, and to stand firm as the Lord provides for them in their tremendous battle.
